A dramatic shrub, often used as a specimen, but also makes a lovely hedge, Sambucucs nigra 'Black Lace is notable for it's strking, deeply divided, purple black foliage, which in early to mid summer is adorned by multiple umbels of tiny white pink flowers, folelwed later by black purple berries. A large shrub which can reach 2.4 metres high and wide if left unchecked, but it also tolerates hard pruning, so can be kept as a much smaller shrub, if desired. Prefers a sunny or partially shaded site in free draining but moist soil.
