Hydrangeas are a classic garden shrub, which have large flowerheads of either mophead type, or the pointy paniculata type from mid summer onwards. Many varieties are shade lovers or shade tolerant, and they work wonderfully as part of a mixed border. This variety 'Preziosa' is a medium to large sized deciduous bush, getting 1.6m to 1.8 metres both high and wide, having bronze coloured young leaves, which gardually turn to deep red by early autumn. The large rounded clusters of rose pink flowers turn reddish purple as they age and appear from late summer through to early autumn. pruning is best left until late spring then the plant can be cut back quite hard to a good pair of buds on each stem. It's very hardy, holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit and will grow in any decent moist but well drained soil.
