With their beautiful clusters of delecate, richly coloured flowers, Agapanthus, also known as Lily of the Nile, provides a stunning focal point for any border, bed or pot.
Plant: March onwards
Flower Time: July/September
Eventual Height: 90cm/36"
Position: Full sun
Agapanthus are tollerable bulbs and will accept most well-drained soils. They appreciate a sheltered position and will flourish in full sun. During their initial summer, water well and regularly. Once established, they require less watering, however watering well at the end of particularly dry summers will ensure good flowering for the year following. If planting Agapanthus in the ground, providing a thick mulch over winter is advisable to sheild them from the cold. Those planted in pots and containers should be re-located to a light area free from frost.
