Cytisus 'Lena' is a small and compact variety of broom reaching c120cm. The very small leaves, and twigs, are mid-green, and the flowers are an interesting mix of red, yellow and orange shades, appearing russet-orange from a distance. It flowers on upright or slightly arching twigs in late spring and early summer. It's important with cytisus to cut back immediately after flowering to give the shrub as much time as possible to form the young shoots which will flower next year, whilst also preventing the shrub becoming leggy. care shoukld be taken, however, not to cut back into the old wood, which will not normally regenerate. hardy, but likes a well drained soil, preferably neutral to acid, in full sun.
