A traditional cottage garden favourite, Campanula medium, also known as Canterbury Bells or the Cup and Saucer plant, is a short lived perennial, with basal clumps of lance like leafy mid green foliage and spikes of bell shaped downward facing flowers in summer. This one has rose coloured flowers. Growing in clumps up to 50cm across it can reach heights of 70cm or so, and if chopped back to the base after flowering may well produce a second flush. If the flowerheads are allowed to form seedheads though it will also self seed quite easily. Happy in sun or light shade in any type of well drained but moist soil in full sun or partial shade. May require staking and giving protection against slugs and snails.
