'Czar' is one of the most popular plums for cooking purposes, with yellow green flesh, an acid flavour and blue purple skin, although it can also be used as a dessert plum if left to ripen for longer, in which case the fruit will gradually get darker and sweeter. A reliable cropper, with a high degree of frost resistance, 'Czar' is hardy and relatively unfussy. It is also self fertile, meaning it doesn't need a pollination partner, but will pollinate other trees in the same pollination group three. Producing white flowers in May, this tree simply needs a sunny site in moist but not waterlogged conditions.
