Achillea are very useful plants indeed, as they thrive in most soils, as long as they are well drained. Drought resistant they also repel slugs and are not particularly attractive to rabbits either. 'Paprika' forms mats of lush green finely divided, slightly hairy foliage, over which stems of huge great plates of flowers hover horizontally, each plate made up of hundreds of tiny bee magnet flowerheads. Opening ruby red in the first instance, the individual flowers fade to pink and then mustard, creating a patchwork of colour on each plate which provides interest throughout summer from June to September. Very hardy, this plant will revel in full sun, part sun or part shade, and the stems can also be used as a long lasting cut flower for the vase.
