Possibly the bluest of blue grasses, and a strikingly architectural plant, Ellymus magellanicus is a tough grass which will grow in most conditions, preferring full sun in an acid or neutral soil. Tiny yellow flower spikes appear in summer, contrasting nicely with the lance like steely blue leaves. This grass can grow between 0.5m and 1m in height and between 0.1 and 0.5m wide. Great in a gravel garden, for formal gardens, and combines well with other perennial plants for a wilder look too.
