Bramley's Seedling is by far the most popular cooking apple in the UK. It is extremely vigorous and partially tip bearing, and on it's own roots would grow 5m plus tall, which is why most are grown on dwarfing rootstocks. An M27 rootstock can be expected to produce a 2 to 3 metre tall tree. Pale pink flowers are followed by flattish fruit, green with reddish flush which can be used from Nov to Feb. Triploid, and needs to be grown with 2 other cultivars to be pollinated. As a sterile variety it cannot pollinate other trees, but whilst this may seem a disadvantage, in practice, in urban settings this is rarely a problem. Excellent for tarts and purees.
